Working with Children

After looking for the best light, I will need to spend a few minutes getting to know your child/children if I will be working with them for the next few hours. I really want them to feel comfortable with me and to trust me, however, I will always respect them and follow their lead. During your session, we will have all sorts of fun. Depending on our location, I will want to capture wandering play, intimate laughter, and sweet, candid shots. Don’t prep the kids for a photo session... tell them they are off to a playdate with Samantha. Hey, we may take some pictures but for the most part, it’s fun! We will get the posed shots you want but will strive to make it real and filled with natural smiles.

Family Session

I completely understand that family sessions can be stressful (especially for mom!). I often see grumpy husbands (who can blame them when they’re missing the big game on a Saturday!), tired and cranky kids, and a mama who just wants everything to run smoothly with perfectly posed smiles and hugs. Please don’t feel like you are the only one dealing with this scenario. It happens to the best of them:) But in the end, know that I am patient, understanding, and will stop at nothing to get the right images for your family. I pour my heart and soul into your sessions because I want the very best for your images. These images represent my work when you show your family and friends, so of course I will do everything I can to showcase the beautiful side of you and your family:) People are often pleasantly surprised at the images I capture when they left the session feeling defeated by a few seemingly rowdy kiddos. So please, don’t worry. Trust me:) If you anticipate a large family/group session. Please let me know ahead of time. I do many reunion type sessions (10-30+ people), and these can be a lot of fun! With these sessions, people typically want a few large group photos, as well as individual family photos. Perfectly ok! . PLEASE NOTE: If there will be more than 16 people, an additional fee of $20 per person will be incurred.

Working with Newborns

I prefer to shoot your newborn within the first two weeks if possible, in your home. The earlier the better! This way they are still sleepy most of the day. Try to feed your baby right before the session, so they have a full tummy and are nice and sleepy. If I am in your home, be sure to turn your heat way up before we arrive. Your little baby will be naked for several of the photos and they like things nice and toasty. If we are all sweating while we work around them, they are nice and comfy being naked! Don’t worry if you are a breastfeeding mom, or want to take frequent breaks to feed the baby during the session. In fact, this is preferred! We are comfortable working with you and around your feeding schedule. Don’t forget I have been there too!:)

Maternity Sessions

I prefer to shoot maternity sessions between 30 and 36 weeks. This way you are showing nicely, but your belly is not too heavy yet. I try not to be too “adventurous” on our maternity shoots, however, I love to incorporate new and exciting scenery, so if you are uncomfortable outdoors please let me know in advance. Look on Pinterest for ideas regarding what to wear and styling. Feel free to order long flowing gowns for your photographs (chiffon, lace, whimsical, classy ensembles are phenomenal in photographs and are something we HIGHLY recommend).
